Re: The Titanic thread
Donald Trump has announced a 25 percent tariff on all cars and trucks imported from the European Union, claiming the bloc failed to honour a trade agreement negotiated with Washington. “Build them here!” he added, in the helpful tone of a man who has never built anything more complex than a golf course.
This is not the opening shot. The 25 percent rate was already in place before a US-EU trade deal last August brought it down to 15 percent. Today’s announcement tears up that reduction. Brussels is not surprised. It has been watching Washington do this before: just days after reaching a deal with the United Kingdom, Trump reimposed tariffs on British steel and aluminium anyway. The EU took note.
Sitting ready is 93 billion euros in retaliatory tariffs, held back since the summer truce. Behind that sits the Anti-Coercion Instrument, the trade bazooka adopted in 2023 and never yet fired, which allows the EU to restrict American investments and strip intellectual property protections from US firms operating in Europe.
The numbers at stake are not small. European manufacturers export around 56 billion euros worth of vehicles to the United States every year. Germany and Italy are most exposed. Oxford Economics estimated German automotive exports would fall by over seven percent under precisely this scenario. Nearly 14 million European jobs are tied to the industry.
The EU has loaded the weapon. It is now waiting to see whether it needs to pull the trigger.

Hey his supporters think we're paying the tariffs for them.....

The Top 5 Christian Nationalist Pests:
Mike Johnson (0:38): Labeled the "puritanical pixie of the House," Bowers criticizes his past leadership at a law school named after a pedophile and his focus on imposing his faith on American politics.
Franklin Graham (1:34): Accused of hypocrisy regarding his stance on moral conduct in politicians, contrasting his criticism of Bill Clinton with his defense of Donald Trump.
Kevin Roberts (3:07): As president of the Heritage Foundation and a mastermind of Project 2025, he is criticized for his rhetoric regarding the destruction of American institutions and his praise for autocratic leadership in Hungary.
Pete Hegseth (4:56): Targeted for his lack of qualifications for the position of Secretary of Defense and for his penchant for invoking imagery of holy wars.
Donald Trump (5:48): Identified as the "number one" pest, with Bowers noting the irony of his prominence as a leader of the Christian nationalist movement despite his own behavior.
Mrs. Bowers concludes the video by humorously expressing her frustration that the Pope would dare to inject his own religious perspectives into American politics, claiming that role is reserved for her.

Re: The Titanic thread
Key Takeaways:
The Myth vs. Reality: While financial media attributed the market surge to an Iran ceasefire (0:00-0:46), data shows the ceasefire was largely ineffective and global transit through the Strait of Hormuz remained heavily disrupted (3:38-3:59).
The Mechanics of the Squeeze:
Hedge Fund Positioning: Going into April, hedge funds had their highest level of short exposure since 2020 (1:57-2:05).
The Three Dominoes: The rally was fueled by a sequence of forced buying:
Short Squeeze: Investors with short positions were forced to buy back shares to cover losses, driving prices up (4:57-5:05).
Systematic Algorithms: Commodity Trading Advisors (CTAs) flipped from short to long, triggering $86 billion in buying over five days (5:39-6:12).
Options Dealer Hedging: As prices rose, options dealers were forced to buy underlying stock to remain delta neutral, further accelerating the melt-up (6:13-6:38).
The Structural Shift in Markets: The video explains that the modern stock market has shifted from human-driven fundamental analysis to a feedback loop of passive indexers, systematic algorithms, and high-leverage hedge funds (7:30-8:30). Because the majority of market participants now prioritize rapid reactivity over valuation, market moves are often driven by algorithmic triggers rather than news or economic health (9:13-9:30).
