BC Premier David Eby says he is open to building a refinery in British Columbia to cut off imports of oil & gas from the USA.

He announced this after being asked if he would lift the tanker ban across the Northern BC Coast.

Eby says the TMX expansion is not being utilized at capacity and thus he sees no need for a new taxpayer funded pipeline.

David also says there is no offer from the private sector to build a pipeline.

Enbridge wanted to build the Northern Gateway pipeline 10 years ago. We also had a private offer to build a multi billion $ refinery in Kitimat.

Both projects were cancelled because Justin Trudeau & David Eby made it impossible for private investors.

In the case of the Northern Gateway pipeline, Justin Trudeau cancelled it in 2016 despite that line having First Nation consent & billions in equity shares in the line. Something I have posted about repeatedly, including a few days ago.

Enbridge also spent $1 billion on consultations and environmental impact assessments, only to have the new Liberal government ax the project anyways.

Once the BC NDP came to power, they made it next to impossible for a refinery project to be built by ensuring the process would cost far too much, while having too much uncertainty, to be viable.

We lost a decade of prosperity because of Justin Trudeau's Liberals & the BC NDP pushing their self serving agendas. Only to now watch David Eby backtrack 10 years later.

This should infuriate everyone. We could have had that refinery built by now and be domestically benefitting from & exporting premium jet fuel, gasoline, diesel & various types of crude.

The reality is, David Eby is a failure & should be stepping down so a competent government can take over.

That is complete and utter bullshit.
I live up here and none between Prince George and Kitimat did. Neither did any town council including that of Kitimat. Smithers even took down a pro Enbridge sign the Chamber of Commerce put up before Trudeau did shit. There was ONE pro Enbridge billboard on a farmer's field along the whole stretch of highway the whole time it was being pushed. ONE.
The only approval among Joe Citizens was from contractors and laid off mill workers desperate for some temporary work as the line passed through their area and others helping themselves to the generous grants (bribes) that Enbridge passed out in the area.
And every valid reason to deny it and the tanker ban then still exists today. The 'because we need the money' panic seems to work on those people who won't see a nickel and end up paying even more for gas & oil.
There is an existing right of way with TMX, that line is not even fully used and an existing tanker route and port in Vancouver that would be far cheaper and faster to consider using and the "majority" of British Columbians crying for a pipeline can put their tiny corner of BC at risk.
As for Eby's refinery: "BC" hasn't, doesn't and isn't going to build a refinery, or a pipeline and neither is "Canada". Private companies do and none are rushing to do so.

ADD ON
with the fat decrepit old fart with the Napoleon complex in the White House flapping his gums over Venezuelan oil, understand that this shit talk about how long it will take to bring onto the market makes you feel better, then understand even adding the formerly sanctioned oil to the regular market increases supply right fucking now, and will bring prices down.
And do you think we can build a port and a pipeline before US Oil companies can repair the Venezuelan infrastructure? It's already there, just needs to be fized up!

Come out and say it Pierre.
If you insist the gpvt must quickly approve a pipeline noi one's proposing tell us if your govt will pay for one. I'm sure that will go over with actual conservatives like a lead balloon.
