Like something out of Call of Duty: details of a complex U.S. operation to rescue a downed pilot in Iran

After the F-15 was hit, one American pilot was rescued immediately, while the second hid in the mountains for nearly three days as IRGC agents searched for him.

The pilot was injured but not in life-threatening condition. The U.S. deployed special forces, aviation and armored vehicles for the evacuation.

The CIA launched disinformation, claiming the pilot had already been found. Iranian forces were distracted, while U.S. teams quietly located him in the mountains.

Intelligence passed on the coordinates, and troops quickly moved in for extraction.

U.S. aviation struck Iranian columns to prevent them from reaching the pilot. A fierce firefight broke out between U.S. special forces and IRGC troops.

The pilot activated his emergency beacon and maintained contact with rescuers while hiding.

During the operation, two military transport aircraft had to be destroyed to prevent them from falling into enemy hands.

In the end, three more aircraft were brought in to evacuate the pilot along with the special forces. No U.S. casualties were reported.

The Pentagon called the mission one of the most complex. Trump stated that Americans do not abandon their men.
