Change the Carbon Tax

Post by testerone »

So here's how to respond to the carry on over the Carbon tax on gas and diesel.
Take it off the fuel and add it to the vehicles.
$3500 per litre tax on the engine displacement at time of sale. Increasing 10% each year.
20% reduction if the vehicle's a hybrid.
50% reduction if it's a PHEV.
No tax on farm equipment, except for road trucks.

So when you buy that truck, they collect $18,000+ all at once instead of nickel and diming you over the life of it.

No rebates for everyone BS.
No one surprised or complains when fuel prices still go up because it's fine for companies to rip you off, it's just bad for govt to tax you.
And wait for Dodge to build Chargers with RollsRoyce 27 L Merlin engines...

Might not be a bad idea. Detroit's stuck on this BIG, HUGE, WAY MORE THAN YOU NEED frame of mind. Instead of making PHEV CUVs that only fit 4 people & groceries, maybe 100 km range on battery and a small recharger like Mazda's 800cc recharger, they're making Lightnings, Mustangs, Hummers and 2,000 HP eChargers that use as big and expensive battery they can. Wondering why people don't buy them?
Mustangs have never been a good car for going to work or squeezing 4 people into.

If they take the tax off fuel and add it to vehicles, they should take it off home heating fuel as well. Maybe in Atlantic Canada, leave it on home heating oil and designate that revenue to build natural gas or hydrogen pipelines to heat homes.
I'm thinking also that people who need to large displacement engines are commercial and business users that write down the cost of vehicles anyway.

Jeez! Can anyone come up with a better alternative to the current Carbon Tax?

That would require accepting climate change as a fact. Not gonna happen with the facts don't care about your feelings crowd.

Sad eh? Forest fires burning, droughts in the rain forest here, hurricanes common in Nova Scotia now, prairies as dry as during the depression and it's all a lie.
They'd rather believe it's God's punishment for Drag Queen story time or a hoax for environmental groups to 'make "more profits"...
