So Jagmeet says he will introduce a no-confidence motion when Parliament comes back, regardless if Trudeau resigns.
Interesting. He's already said they won't support a Tory no confidence motion, will the Tories support his?
Who will gain/lose face over who is calling it? Or will they bicker as we continue to watch the Liberal Dead Men Walking?

He changed his tack when he got the results back from focus groups and internal polling showing he gains nothing by hedging at this point. He wants to have a shot at power, even if it's only arranging deck chairs on the titanic at this point. There are bills he still wants passed but will go poof if the liberals prorogues in January. He really is out of his depth and I think the NDP and the liberals are going to pay for this in the election by losing most of their seats, official party status and having a super majority government with no mandate and a separatist opposition. Their legacies are torched and they will be seen as how not to run a government even though they managed to hold office as a minority for 9 years strait. That they managed to do that for that long and during a pandemic and economic upheaval of the supply chain for oil and basic foodstuffs from Russia and Ukraine gone overnight and never to return on the world market without tanking the economy was a minor miracle.

The cons say that Jag needs a pension and that's why he wants to have an election in october but that is a red herring as he already will have it in February:

If Jagmeet pulls the plug in early 2025 then that will effectively put the Conservatives in power. The Conservatives will of course support the NDP non confidence vote.
In the last Federal election the NDP spent more money than ever and they still *lost* seats. Maybe if the NDP gets stomped in the next election then there will be a new NDP leader. I don't see how pulling the plug now benefits the NDP.

Flat footed fools. Keep in mind that the 2 month filibuster by the cons on their own motion was kept in play by the NDP. WHY??? What was the plan here?

Let Conservatives waste their shot at governing and look like idiots, then pull the plug on the Liberals so that Jagmeet can say HE pulled the plug, not PP.

That assumes Jag can hold on to his leadership post election. If the NDP are gutted, and they will be, then his head is on the block.

That is true for all leaders though. Right now, it looks like the CPC are favoured. Jagmeets only chance is to make PP look incapable of governing. And this fillabuster is the perfect opportunity to let Canada see that PP has no idea what goes on in our lives, and he's willing to ignore us for his own political gain. Then Jagmeet can point to his successes, and offer an alternative.

The party leader must whip up public enthusiasm and get enough seats so that his/her party can form the government. Jagmeet lost seats in the last election. I agree. He's finished if the NDP has another poor showing.

There needs to be ONE candidate that can rally the ABC vote and energize it at the same time. Mild centests need not apply. So whoever survives the liberal leadership will either need to seriously consider merging under or with the NDP or face decimation. Half measures will only allow a con supermajority with a separatist opposition that will have Canada cut up for spoils while Trump cheers them on.
