TLDR Trump is so extreme that even Harper can't get in bed with him and as he is the puppetmaster behind the entire con movement they can't dismiss him out of hand like the did Mulroney. He sees clearly that trade with everyone but the US is the only way Canada survives this crisis. Jean Chretien boasted that 2 things he is proud of doing during his tenure is turning down the US in their invasion of Iraq and ignoring Harper on deregulating the banks. He was right both times laissez faire capitalism corrodes and overthrowing the world order without a plan on building a future is planning to fail.

Debate over policy has become background noise and the cult of personality has drowned out civil discourse. Accountability, not props or virtue signaling, is the only way we stay above water.
